I know it has been a while since I have written and so much has happened in the between time. I have arrived in Haiti and am busy training our interns, finalizing details for our summer teams and visiting other campuses of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. It has been so much fun to connect with our Haitian and American staff and to see all that God is doing in this place.
Emily and I left on May 23 and traveled to Haiti. We arrived in Port-au-Prince and boarded a flight with Mission Aviation Fellowship. It was a four seat Cessna that carried us to Port du Paix. We met Caitlin Smith, another NWHCM staff in Miami and flew in with her. Emily and Caitlin were not sold on the flight on the small plane, but believe it or not, I loved it.
Our interns arrived on May 26 and we began a fun week of training. They have learned all about the mission, all about the area of St. Louis du Nord and they are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our first teams on June 4. This is a great group of young ladies and it is exciting to see their desire to serve Christ and the people of Haiti.
Alana is holding down the home front. She will travel to Haiti with Zach and Kimberly on June 19 and will spend about four weeks here. Needless to say, Emily and I are ready for them to get here! Please pray for our family while we are apart.
We are excited about all the people and churches God has brought onto our team to help support us financially. We know that God is doing great work in our lives and we have full confidence that he will provide for all of our needs.
Please continue to pray for our work this summer. We will be serving here with the NWHCM staff until August 1 when we will return home. Pray for our spiritual health, our physical health and our family and marriage health. We want to make sure we never give the enemy an inch in our lives.
Thank you for all your support. If you would be interested in joining our team financially, you can do so here:http://onelifeadventures.org/how-to-support-the-harveys-financially/
Eight days. That is how much time is left before Emily and I head to Haiti this summer. Eight days. 192 hours. Time is getting close.
Just to make sure you are up to date, on May 23 my oldest daughter, Emily and I will make our way to Haiti for the summer. Emily is serving as an intern for Northwest Haiti Christian Mission and I will be working with the staff and teams as they travel through this summer. In total, we will spend ten weeks serving the people of Haiti.
Alana, Zachary and Kimberly will travel over on June 19 and spend about four weeks with us. It will be hard being separated that long, but we are confident that God has called us to serve in this way. We know God has amazing things in store for us as individuals and as a family.
Please be praying for us as we go. Haiti is not an easy place to live. There is no electricity most of the time, very little air conditioning, poverty and need is everywhere and we will be constantly fighting an enemy who wants to discourage us and keep us from focusing on our Heavenly Father.
Also pray for our staff. Summer can often be a challenging time. When teams are at the mission there is little down time. Pray for patience, servant hearts and comforting peace from the Holy Spirit.
Pray for me this summer. I am beginning a brand new aspect of this ministry journey and to be honest I am a little scared. I know God has amazing things in store, but stepping out of our comfort zone is just that: uncomfortable.
For those of you who are supporting us financially, thank you so much. You are an incredible blessing to our lives. You allow us the privilege of serving beautiful people in Haiti and awesome mission staff with NWHCM. We could literally not do this without you.
If you have not joined our ministry support team, we could really use you. You can register here to be part of our financial support team: http://onelifeadventures.org/how-to-support-the-harveys-financially/
Blessings to you all, and I will update you regularly on all God is doing in Haiti.
